Following a mass shooting that took place on Independence Day in Philadelphia, Mayor Jim Kenney pushed for the victims’ families to file lawsuits against gun dealers and gun shows. He is calling for such action in an effort to put these entities out of business, arguing that these establishments should have not been able to sell firearms to the gunman.

During Independence Day weekend, a cross-dressing gunman shot and killed five people, which included a 15-year-old boy. Almost immediately following the shooting, Philadelphia officials instantly called for civilian disarmament measures.

Passing such measures in the City of Brotherly Love is much easier said than done, however. The state of Pennsylvania has strong preemption laws that bar municipalities from crafting their own gun control measures. So, passing gun control won’t be such an easy task as there will be fierce pushback and prolonged legal fights to ensure that such anti-gun proposals don’t become law.

However, if there’s one thing that gun owners have picked up on over the years, it’s that Gun Control Inc. is relentless. The anti-gunners will not let institutional constraints and constitutional norms stop them from pursuing their unholy mission. Nor do they care about looking at the facts when it comes to why crime is sweeping across cities such as Philadelphia.

Thanks to the soft-on-crime policies of the George Soros-funded district attorney of Philadelphia, Larry Krasner, the city has been rocked by an alarming wave of violent crime. In 2021, Philadelphia recorded over 550 murders — a historical record.

Dudley Brown, the president of the National Association for Gun Rights, commented on Kenney’s push for additional gun control:

“Nothing makes me angrier than a gun grabber blaming law-abiding Americans for the evil actions of a criminal. The audacity of punishing ordinary armed Americans, and ma and pop gun store owners for the failed policies of leftist inner cities is too shameful to even comprehend.”

Naturally, the gun violence aspect of this ongoing crime wave has prompted the likes of Kenney and his anti-gun ilk to call for additional civilian disarmament measures.

However, such calls for more gun control completely ignore the harsh reality about criminal behavior: Criminals don’t care about gun control laws on the books. They will continue to carry and operate firearms illegally much to the detriment of law-abiding citizens whose compliance with arbitrary gun laws makes them sitting ducks for violent criminals.
