This announcement by Kamala Harris should be extremely worrying for gun owners.

It’s clear that her view of the Constitution is a very dangerous one.

And a Kamala Harris presidency just might unleash chaos.

The Constitution is very clear about what freedoms it protects, and what it does not consider to be a “right.”

It protects freedom of speech, the freedom to assemble, the freedom to bear arms, the freedom to not be spied on by the government, and the freedom to be given a fair trial during criminal proceedings.

It does not, as Kamala Harris seems to believe, give people a “right” to be safe at all times no matter what.

Of course, it is good for people to be safe, and that’s why police exist. In fact, police should almost certainly do more to secure public schools, for example, to defend against people who would harm children.

But the Constitution simply cannot guarantee that all people will be safe at all times.

The fact that Kamala Harris seems to believe that suggests that she may want to see certain things in the Constitution changed.

According to The Truth About Guns, “Vice President Kamala Harris sparked debate Thursday when she declared that ‘the right to be safe is a civil right’ during an East Room event where President Joe Biden signed a new executive order aimed at limiting the development of gun technologies. Harris’s statement raises questions about the administration’s stance, particularly in light of efforts to limit the constitutional right ‘to bear arms,’ which many believe is crucial to ensuring personal safety.”

Her statement is dangerously utopian, in the sense that she seems to believe that through government programs, she can build a perfect society that has no violence.

Throughout history, all attempts to build such utopias have sadly ended in massive violence and bloodshed.

The article continues, “Harris, who claims to support the Second Amendment while advocating for more gun restrictions, continues to face scrutiny from those who argue that her policies aim to restrict gun rights. The vice president’s insistence that Americans have a right to live ‘without fear of violence — including gun violence’ leaves many wondering how that can be achieved while limiting access to the very tools that allow individuals to defend themselves.”

As the article makes clear, safety is something that people can ensure for themselves as best as they can, through the Second Amendment.

It’s also something police can help to provide by securing public spaces against violent individuals.

But there is absolutely nothing the government or anyone else can do to bubble wrap all of society and guarantee that no violence will ever occur.

There will be no utopia on Earth. It is an impossibility. All we can do is try our best to reduce the amount of violence as much as possible and keep people as safe as possible.

That will not happen by taking guns away from innocent people, even if Kamala Harris views that as her silver bullet to solving all of society’s ills.
