Kamala Harris has said some very ugly things about guns.
She is not someone gun owners should want anywhere near the White House.
And this recording of Kamala Harris should be worrying to everybody.
The image that Kamala Harris is trying to project of herself as a moderate on guns simply is not consistent with her track record.
More and more facts have been emerging about her tenure as a prosecutor in the Bay Area, and it is clear that she has held some very extreme views about guns in the past.
Some of her allies claim that those views have changed, but it is suspicious that they changed right around the time that she became the Democrat nominee for president.
It raises questions about whether she truly changed her mind in the last two months, or if it was just for political convenience.
In any case, it is clear that as district attorney in San Francisco, Harris was extremely hostile to the Second Amendment.
In fact, new audio that has been leaked records her talking about banning guns completely and taking them away from everybody.
According to the Washington Free Beacon, “Kamala Harris once suggested it ‘would be great’ to ban all gun ownership but said such a policy was unlikely and a ‘long way off’ due to constitutional obstacles, according to a previously unreported audio recording.
“Harris, who was serving as district attorney of San Francisco at the time, spoke at a 2006 event hosted by the Commonwealth Club of California, where the moderator asked whether gun ownership should be banned.”
It’s notable that when she says such a policy is a “long way off” she is not ruling out that it could become a reality eventually.
In fact, it sounds like she would have liked that to be a reality in the immediate present, but that there were some obstacles to overcome first.
The article continues, “Harris—who now says on the campaign trail that she owns a gun for self-protection—didn’t offer a justification for personal gun ownership in the recording. She said a total gun ban was unlikely in the short term because ‘the Constitution of the United States says that we do have a right to legally possess firearms.’ She also didn’t rule out a ban in the future.”
“In 2005, Harris reportedly backed a San Francisco ballot measure that would ban all civilian handguns in the city, according to The Reload. That measure was defeated after legal challenges from Second Amendment groups.”
No individual has ever been elected President of the United States while holding such explicitly anti-gun views in such an extreme way.
Some, like Barack Obama, likely held such views personally, but Obama was a shrewd politician who was very careful about what he put out in a public forum.
Harris, on the other hand, is publicly on the record holding these very radical views about banning all guns, and she is now the Democratic nominee for President of the United States.
