This is one of the most powerful people in the Democratic Party.
And he is going to war with free speech in a way that could also affect gun owners.
Now the Constitution is under attack at the hands of this top Democrat.
John Kerry has been part of America’s political elite for a long time, and even two decades after he lost the presidential race against George W. Bush, he still holds a significant amount of power.
He is Joe Biden’s “climate envoy” and his job is to fly around to different conferences around the world and propose “solutions,” many of which are grossly unconstitutional, to climate change.
During this time, he has developed a hostility to free speech, as many of the political elites have as well.
As new technology has emerged which makes it easier for people to get their voices out there in a way that can’t be controlled, Kerry and others are worried.
Now he is strongly indicating that he might support curbs on free speech, and gun owners are rightly pointing out that this could affect them too.
According to The Truth About Guns, “Former Obama administration Secretary of State and Biden administration ‘climate envoy’ John Kerry’s recent anti-First Amendment rant during a World Economic Forum panel on ‘Green Energy’ wasn’t directed at gun owners and gun-rights groups, but it could have been.”
“He called the First Amendment—which was written partially to protect freedom of speech—a ‘major block’ to hammering out what he considers to be ‘disinformation.’”
“While that’s nonsense enough, you might be asking what that has to do with the Second Amendment. And the answer is, everything.”
There are many reasons why this should be concerning to gun owners, the first and most obvious of which is that gun owners rely on free speech as much as anybody.
Most Americans do not own guns, which means gun owners need to use their voices to advocate for the interests of themselves and their communities.
There are other reasons as well.
The article continues, “There’s little doubt that Kerry and his ilk would also like to silence gun-rights groups that disagree with the government’s assertions that violent crime is a ‘public health crisis,’ AR-style rifles are ‘assault weapons,’ and the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act gives gun makers ‘blanket immunity.’
“The Biden-Harris administration holds those three ‘facts’ as among their utmost certainties as far as gun policy is concerned. Who believes they wouldn’t like to cut back on any dissent about those ideas if they were given the opportunity?”
This is clearly a dangerous situation for many groups of Americans, not only gun owners.
But gun owners are uniquely vulnerable in the sense that people who do not own guns have little understanding of the importance of the issue or the needs of the gun community.
If John Kerry ultimately does initiate a push to restrict free speech in America, it could have major implications for gun owners across the nation.
