This was the last thing the anti-gun left was expecting to happen.
In their dream world, police would be the ones responsible for taking guns away from citizens.
But now the police have turned against gun control in a major piece of breaking news.
Gun ownership is not as common in Canada as it is in the United States, but there are far more gun owners in Canada than there are in many countries around the world.
But when Justin Trudeau took office, he made it his mission to make Canada more like the rest of the world, where in many countries gun ownership is nearly unthinkable.
His efforts have not quite gone as planned, however, and now he could be on the verge of losing his position as prime minister altogether.
The man who might defeat him, Pierre Poilievre, is known for being quite conservative by Canada’s standards, which is something that has Trudeau’s supporters in a panic.
Now the police in Canada have turned against Trudeau’s gun control in a very public way that could cause the dam to break and the restrictions to be rolled back.
According to Breitbart, “Canadian PM Justin Trudeau lauded a handgun ban he put in place and the Toronto Police Association (TPA) responded Monday by claiming the ban ‘has not worked.’
“On October 21, 2022, Breitbart News reported Trudeau’s announcement of a ‘freeze’ on handgun sales and transfers, as well as his claim that the action would keep children safe.”
It’s not surprising that Trudeau took the “do it for the children” angle, as that is a common refrain from people who support gun control.
But it does not appear that children are actually any safer in Canada after the restrictions that Trudeau put in place.
The article continues, “The TPAca responded to Trudeau’s tweet by noting, ‘Criminals did not get your message. Our communities are experiencing a 45% increase in shootings and a 62% increase in gun-related homicides compared to this time last year.’
“TPAca noted that criminals continue to move handguns across borders; that ‘85% of guns seized by [TPAca] members can be sourced to the United States.’
“They added, ‘Your statement is out of touch and offensive to victims of crime and police officers everywhere. Whatever you think you’ve done to improve community safety, has not worked.’”
These Toronto police officers may not be diehard advocates of the freedom to bear arms, but they can at least recognize what is right in front of their faces, which is that gun control hasn’t worked.
Trudeau’s failures on this and many other issues appear poised to lead to his defeat in the next Canadian election, where he trails badly in the polls.
Perhaps if he loses his position in dramatic fashion, as it seems he is going to, it will provide Poilievre and others with the backbone to roll back these restrictions.
Justin Trudeau’s entire legacy as prime minister of Canada is collapsing, and his efforts to implement gun control have clearly failed.
