One congressional Democrat had a very bad day.

He had a total meltdown on camera at a hearing when he didn’t get his way on gun control.

And now many people are talking about this viral clip.

After the Trump assassination attempt, Republicans and Democrats alike were in agreement that the Secret Service did a horrible job and changes needed to be made.

Unfortunately, there were still a few Democrats who wanted to use the incident as a means to push their political agenda.

At the hearing where now-former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle was testifying, one Democrat had a meltdown over gun control.

He felt that guns weren’t being talked about enough as the primary cause of this assassination attempt, and he lost total control of his emotions.

It was a very bad look for him and it surely made many of his colleagues cringe as they watched him lose his cool on camera for the whole world to see.

And many people have been talking about this temper tantrum ever since, as it shows just how committed to gun control Democrats are.

According to The Truth About Guns, “Democrat U.S. Rep. Gerald Connelly of Virginia repeatedly tried to badger Cheatle into saying that if so-called ‘assault weapons’ were banned it would make the agency’s job easier. And when she refused to say what he wanted her to, Connelly got visibly angry.

“In a video detailing the exchange, Philip Van Cleave, president of the Virginia Citizens Defense League, pointed out that Connelly is anti-gun to the point that he can’t think of hardly anything else.”

It’s clear that the focus of the hearing should not have been gun control, it should have been correcting the glaring errors in the Secret Service that led to a former president almost dying.

Most Democrats, to their credit, seemed to recognize that, including some of the most progressive members like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. But Gerald Connolly simply couldn’t get past his own political agenda.

Here is what Connolly said after Cheatle didn’t explicitly endorse gun control in the hearing: “Director Cheatle: It’s simple. More guns, do they make your job more complicated or less complicated in protecting these 36 clients and visiting heads of state and heads of government that come to Washington?”

The article continues, “As Cheatle continued to not answer the way he wanted, Connelly appeared to get angrier and angrier, asking the same question over and over again hoping she would capitulate.”

It was a very bizarre exchange, and a revealing one. People who are too wrapped up in politics often lose sight of everything else.

Connolly is clearly so committed to gun control that he can’t see the fact that an assassination attempt is a bigger deal than his personal political views.

Hopefully he is able to take a step back and realize how misguided he is.

The assassination attempt on Trump was a difficult moment for the entire nation, and using it to push a political agenda is simply wrong.
