Anti-gun Democrats in Congress kept this plan under wraps.

But then they suddenly unleashed it in a dramatic scene on the floor of the House.

And it could lead to national gun control being passed.

With Joe Biden in the White House, but with Republicans narrowly controlling the House of Representatives, anti-gun Democrats have been looking for a way to get gun control on his desk.

This has proven to be difficult, as the rules of the House give the speaker a lot of power about which bills come up, and Speaker Mike Johnson has shown no interest in passing gun control.

But there are always procedural tricks that politicians can use to get their way, and some Democrats in Congress have figured one out that could benefit their agenda.

They are using what is called a “discharge petition” to get around the Republican majority and pass gun control through to the U.S. Senate, in the hopes that it will eventually reach Biden’s desk.

This sneak attack caught Republicans completely off guard, and if they are not careful, the plan could end up working.

According to Axios, “A group of House Democrats on Wednesday announced an effort to go around GOP leadership and force a vote on expanding ‘red flag’ gun laws.

“The Supreme Court’s mixed rulings on gun control laws this term – scrapping a bump stock ban but maintaining gun limits for domestic abusers –  has reignited Democratic efforts to pass gun control laws.

“Democrats lined up behind a bump stock bill last week, after the Supreme Court ruling on the issue, but Republicans blocked it from passing.

“Reps. Salud Carbajal (D-Calif.) and Lucy McBath (D-Ga.) announced in a press release that they are introducing a discharge petition on the Federal Extreme Risk Protection Act.”

While it is terrible for the Constitution, this is a brilliant move by the Democrats, who have completely outfoxed the Republicans on this issue.

Republicans have not yet found a way to stop this discharge petition from taking place.

The article continues, “The maneuver would force a House vote after a certain time period if 218 lawmakers sign onto the petition, with or without the assent of GOP leadership.

“The bill would allow federal courts to issue orders removing guns from those deemed a risk to themselves or others and create a Justice Department grant program expanding such orders at the state level.”

Only a handful of liberal Republicans would have to sign on to this discharge petition for it to successfully force a vote in the House, and if those same liberal Republicans vote “yes,” then the bill will pass.

If this happens, gun control could soon become the law of the land across the country, even in red states.

Republicans in Congress need to take action immediately to prevent this from happening, but so far they haven’t figured out a way.

And if they don’t wise up soon, they are going to be responsible for gun control passing due to their failure to act.
