Everyone has been wondering what Trump is going to do on guns.
No one is quite sure what the answer is.
And this new report revealed something that is quite shocking about Trump and gun control.
Donald Trump is not exactly shy about making his opinions known on a variety of topics, which is why the fact that his exact views on guns are a mystery is quite strange.
He hasn’t made clear exactly what he is planning to do in his second term on guns, as opposed to subjects like immigration and trade where he has been very specific in his plans.
This has left people to speculate, and nothing that has come out has given any indication about what gun policy will look like in the second Trump administration.
In his first term, there was a mixed bag, as he clearly wasn’t on an anti-gun crusade like Joe Biden was, but he did make unilateral gun control moves like banning bump stocks.
Now a report has come out that shows just how shockingly little information there still is about Trump’s plans on the hot-button issue of gun control.
According to The Week, “President Donald Trump began his second term with a blitz of executive orders about everything from birthright citizenship to immigration enforcement. Missing from the first week flurry of new policies, though, was action on guns.
“During his presidential campaign, Trump said that repealing Biden-era gun regulations would be a priority. But as a candidate, Trump offered few additional clues about what his actions would be around guns and Second Amendment rights.”
Guns are clearly not an issue that are a high priority to Trump, but as the president he is not going to be able to avoid dealing with the issue.
He will be under heavy pressure from Democrats in Congress to pass gun control, and he will have to decide whether to listen to them or ignore them.
The article continues, “Guns and gun policy were also not included in Trump’s inaugural address in Washington, nor did they figure into any of the executive orders he signed on Day One. Despite the lack of early action, Republicans are expected to push for national concealed carry legislation in the coming months, which President Trump previously said he would sign.”
“As president from 2017 to 2021, Trump appointed three justices to the United States Supreme Court, all of whom were regarded as strong supporters of gun rights. Yet the Court has only issued a handful of major rulings on guns during this period.”
Trump’s gun views are still a black box of mystery. He grew up in New York, where there is not nearly as much of a culture of legal gun ownership as there is in rural parts of America.
He may have grown up with a negative attitude towards guns just by virtue of the environment he lived in.
Perhaps his views have changed, but he doesn’t talk about it much, and The Week is reporting that there is still very little information about his plans on gun control.
