Gun owners were stunned after this horrible betrayal by a Republican.
This Republican senator is enlisting the military to take away innocent people’s guns.
And now the Second Amendment is in serious danger.
Susan Collins prides herself as being the most “moderate” Republican in the United States Senate, meaning that she is essentially a Democrat on a number of issues.
However, one issue where she should have no issue siding with her fellow Republicans is the Second Amendment.
After all, Maine is a gun-owning state. It successfully passed a constitutional carry bill in 2015 and has a relatively high percentage of citizens who own guns.
In other words, Susan Collins has no political excuse for coming out against gun rights. And yet she is now calling for the military to step in and take people’s guns away.
She wants to enlist the U.S. military to come to the homes of people who are reported as being “dangerous” – whatever that means – and seize their weapons.
And perhaps the worst part about it is that she is working with a supposed “gun rights” organization to make this happen.
According to the Bangor Daily News, “Republican U.S. Sen. Susan Collins is drafting a bill that would direct branches of the military to utilize state crisis intervention laws to confiscate firearms from people deemed to be a danger to themselves or others.
“The proposal from Collins is still in development, but it was touted Monday during a Maine Calling program by David Trahan, head of the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine, an influential gun rights advocacy group.
“SAM helped draft Maine’s version of a crisis intervention law, more commonly known as red or yellow flag laws.”
This is a tremendous betrayal, not only by Collins but also by the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine, a group that many gun owners are probably members of without knowing about the anti-gun activity they are engaging in behind the scenes.
Of course, Democrats are seizing on this opportunity to push the ball even further on gun control. Sen. Angus King of Maine, who calls himself an “independent” but caucuses with the Democrats, has introduced a radical gun control bill.
The article reports, “Independent U.S. Sen. Angus King recently introduced legislation that would regulate assault-style weapons by mandating that they have permanently fixed magazines limited to 10 rounds for rifles and 15 rounds for some pistols. The proposal is considered an alternative to an outright ban on assault-style weapons, which has failed to gain traction in Congress and the Maine Legislature.”
In other words, the two senators from Maine are working on one hand to send the military to the houses of private civilians to seize their guns, and on the other hand to severely restrict the rights of law-abiding gun owners across the nation to own popular types of firearms and accessories.
This is a tremendous betrayal of the constitutional rights of American citizens, and gun owners in Maine, of which there are many, should keep this in mind the next time their senators come up for re-election.
