Major news has broken about Joe Biden’s gun control plans.
He took action in the wake of the Wisconsin school shooting.
And now everyone is paying attention to see what he does next.
The school shooting in Madison, Wisconsin, was a total nightmare for all the people involved and broke the hearts of millions across America.
Nobody wants to see innocent people harmed, especially children who are just trying to go to school and prepare for their future, which has sadly now been taken away from them.
The question of how to respond to incidents like this should not detract from the grief and mourning that surrounds the loss of these children.
However, the national conversation has already begun about what must be done to prevent school shootings, and Joe Biden is at the forefront of it.
He has already come out publicly in favor of stricter gun control, something he has pushed the entire time he has been in office.
And now Second Amendment supporters will have to watch out to see what he does next and respond to it politically if they need to.
According to Yahoo! News, “Responding to a deadly school shooting in Madison, President Joe Biden called on Congress to pass universal background checks, a national red flag law and a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.”
Here is what Biden said: “We need Congress to act. Now. From Newtown to Uvalde, Parkland to Madison, to so many other shootings that don’t receive attention — it is unacceptable that we are unable to protect our children from this scourge of gun violence. We cannot continue to accept it as normal.”
Unfortunately, Biden’s statement is misleading. His political opponents are not accepting it as “normal,” they simply believe gun control isn’t the best way to stop these events.
After all, a ban on “assault weapons” would do almost nothing to stop these shootings, as the same type of evil can be accomplished with a handgun.
And the shooter in Madison did not appear to have a criminal record that would have shown up in a background check.
These types of individuals aren’t generally the local drug dealer with a long rap sheet, but often are quiet loners who don’t have criminal records.
The article continues, “Biden noted steps his administration has taken to combat gun violence, including the passage of the most significant gun-safety legislation in nearly 30 years. ‘But more is needed,’ he said.”
The best way to stop these types of incidents is to do a better job securing the actual school building itself.
The fact that two high-profile shootings now have targeted private Christian schools is not a coincidence, as these schools tend to have less security than public schools.
If school buildings are vacuum-sealed and have an armed resource officer on campus, the odds of a shooting go down significantly.
That is a more immediate and effective way to stop these shootings than to ban one type of weapon which does almost the exact same thing as handgun.
