Funerals are never the right place to get into political arguments.
But Joe Biden apparently never got that memo.
And he took the opportunity at a sorrowful funeral to yell at the grieving families about gun control.
For some Democrats who are obsessed with pushing their progressive agenda, it is morally acceptable to hijack anything for the sake of politics.
This even goes for funerals, which most normal, well-adjusted people would say should be about grieving the dead and remembering their lives, not giving political speeches.
But Democrats famously hijacked the funeral of the late Sen. Paul Wellstone in 2000 to make it a political rally.
Anti-gun politicians have used tragic shootings as excuses to push their gun control agenda.
And now Joe Biden has used an event meant to mourn the loss of fallen police officers in order to lecture their families about gun control.
Instead of simply highlighting the heroic officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty, he made it all about politics.
And his highly inappropriate insult to the families who were in attendance did not go unnoticed.
According to Bearing Arms, “Noting that President Joe Biden isn’t supportive of gun rights is like finding out the sun rises in the East. We already knew that, so it’s nothing new.”
“But I think we can all agree there are times when politics should take a back seat. These somber moments are often when we’re remembering the fallen.
“Unfortunately for everyone, Biden can’t help himself.”
The article then links to a report from Fox News about Biden’s speech at the National Peace Officers’ Memorial Service.
Here is what Fox News reported: “President Biden addressed the National Peace Officers’ Memorial Service at the Capitol on Wednesday, paying tribute to police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.”
“The president spoke about some of the achievements his administration has prioritized to get cops on the street, invest in public safety, pass gun control measures and protect first responders. He mentioned $350 billion included in the American Rescue Plan for states and cities to hire and retain police officers and pay benefits to disabled first responders, as well as $37 billion included in the Save America Plan to improve community policing.”
“During his remarks, Biden emphasized his administration’s gun control initiatives.”
Here is what Biden said: “The historic steps taken to support you, to stop the flow of illegal guns, to hold gun traffickers accountable for crime, it matters, and it matters a lot.”
Perhaps no one should be surprised that Biden used this opportunity to push his extreme political agenda onto the people in attendance.
But perhaps the organizers of the event thought that Biden’s better angels would cause him to put politics aside and promote a unifying message at such a sorrowful event.
That is not, unfortunately, what happened. Biden took full advantage of his time at the podium to push politics and gun control, and in turn he insulted the families who were there to grieve.
