Gun owners are trying to figure out what Trump’s administration will look like.
It can be very hard to predict what he will do on the Second Amendment.
But this latest news about guns will not make Trump very happy.
After Democrats lost the election to Trump and the Republican Party, different people in the party have had different reactions.
Some, like Rep. Seth Moulton of Massachusetts, have admitted that the party needs to moderate on some important cultural issues to win voters back.
Others have pledged to double down and continue to push for a very left-wing agenda and oppose Trump at every turn.
It appears that some in the anti-gun lobby are going to follow the latter strategy, as it is apparently what their base expects from them.
Instead of scaling back their demands for gun control, they seem to be intent on simply opposing Republicans and continuing to push for everything that they want.
This could lead to even more political chaos, as it would leave the country just as polarized as before and won’t do anything to solve these issues.
According to The Truth About Guns, “One such group, so-called Moms Demand Action, claims to have beaten Trump on gun control in the past, although it’s unclear when that happened.”
Here’s what MDA had to say: “Nothing will stop us from fighting for the safety of our kids and communities. We’ve been up against and beaten Trump’s extremist agenda before, and we’ll do it again. Our army of over 10 million supporters are ready to fight like hell against President Trump and his lawmaker allies if they attempt to undo our progress or push legislation that would make us less safe. With the overwhelming majority of Americans who support strong gun safety laws behind us, we will win.”
This is probably not the most productive attitude at this moment in time, as people trying to “fight like hell” has led us to the brink of political violence.
And political violence is a very ugly and dangerous thing that would almost certainly end up being worse than people realize. Americans should do everything possible to avoid it.
The Brady campaign had this to say after the election: “The election of Donald Trump is deeply troubling for our safety and freedom from gun violence. And that’s why we are doubling down on our work and fighting harder than ever.”
Everyone in American politics these days just wants to double down, and then double down some more.
This is why nothing ever gets figured out, because everyone is convinced they are 100% right and refuses to even consider the fact that their approach to politics is making things worse, not better.
Donald Trump is not going to be thrilled to hear that some of these anti-gun groups are still pledging to “double down” and “fight like hell” against him.
Hopefully he will remain focused on his job and let the heavily inflamed passions of these people just simmer out.
