Donald Trump is being begged to step into one ugly situation.

Things continue to spiral towards disaster.

And gun advocates are pleading with Trump to do something about it now.

The state of Colorado used to be very pro-gun, but it has been taken over by a very radical group of progressive Democrats who are overhauling the laws of the state to fit their ideology.

The latest and clearest example of this is the bill they just passed, which will be the most extreme set of gun laws in the entire country.

These laws will make it difficult or impossible to own virtually any modern type of gun, well beyond just the “assault weapons” that the anti-gun lobby often crows about.

Now gun advocates in Colorado are pleading with Trump do something about this before the Second Amendment is, for all practical purposes, wiped out in the state.

They are urging Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate the new law to see if it is constitutional or not, which it seems clear that by just about any objective standard, it is not.

According to 9 News, “Colorado House Republicans are calling on the Trump administration to investigate the state’s newly-signed gun control law, arguing that it violates the Second Amendment and poses a threat to public safety.

“In a letter sent to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, members of the Colorado House Republican Caucus asked the Department of Justice to review the constitutionality of Senate Bill 25-003, legislation that requires people to take a safety training course through Colorado Parks and Wildlife before they can buy or sell semiautomatic rifles, shotguns, or handguns with detachable magazines.”

“Republican lawmakers argue the measure represents ‘one of the most extreme’ gun laws in the country. They also say the law creates financial and bureaucratic obstacles for gun owners.”

The only way this is likely going to get resolved is by outside help, whether it comes from the Trump administration or the Supreme Court.

Progressives now dominate the Colorado legislature with veto-proof majorities, and Gov. Jared Polis, despite allegedly being a “libertarian Democrat,” has at times bent the knee to them.

Here is part of what the letter to Bondi says: “SB25-003 places a financial and bureaucratic burden on law-abiding citizens, forcing them to navigate excessive red tape and pay steep fees simply to exercise their Second Amendment right.”

“The right to keep and bear arms is not a privilege – it is a fundamental American right. We look forward to working with you … as the Colorado House Republicans continue to fight to protect the constitutional rights of our Colorado citizens.”

Bondi has a bit of a mixed record on gun issues herself, and even as AG has drawn criticism for not always being enthusiastic about getting rid of gun control regulations in the federal government.

It will be interesting to see whether she responds to this letter and does something about this unfolding crisis.

If she does not, then Trump himself may have to step in.
