Gun control might be teetering on the edge.
Things are starting to change in America, and things are looking brighter for the 2nd Amendment.
And this major change is going to be bad news for gun control supporters.
One of the things that anti-gun activists have always been able to rely on is the fact that the general public likes gun control.
Of course, most people who say they like gun control don’t really know much about the issue or care about it at all.
The people who do care are the gun owners who understand exactly why the Second Amendment is so important and needs to be defended.
That’s why gun owners have managed to win a lot of political fights over the years, because even though they are a minority, they are more knowledgeable and committed than the other side.
However, even the polls of the general public are starting to shift against gun control, which takes away perhaps the only tool the anti-gun side had in its toolbox.
This could shatter the goals of gun control supporters across America and tank gun control efforts.
According to the Daily Caller, “Americans are less supportive of some gun control measures than they were a year ago, according to a new Gallup poll released Monday.”
“Support for a handgun ban is at 20%, near the all-time low, and support for an ‘assault weapons’ ban is down nine points from 2019, according to the poll conducted Oct. 1 through Oct. 12. However, a slim majority still support stricter laws overall, with 56% supporting additional laws and 33% supporting no change.”
The polls still might not look great for Second Amendment supporters at first glance, but it actually represents a big shift.
Many people halfheartedly support gun control because they don’t own guns and they don’t really care. But now it seems that even some of those people are skeptical of gun control.
The article continues, “Democrats swung 16 points against handgun bans from 2023 to this year, going from 49% in favor to only 33%, the poll found. Independent voters also decreased their support for the policy, dipping five points from 2022.”
“Gun policy was an important issue during the 2024 election, with 53% President-elect Donald Trump supporters and 59% of Vice President Kamala Harris supporters saying the issue was ‘very important’ for their vote, according to a September Pew Research poll. Harris promised in 2019 when she ran in her party’s presidential primary race to ban assault weapons if she were elected to office.”
Gun policy may have been important in the election, but it certainly doesn’t seem like it helped Democrats at all, as evidenced by Harris and Walz trying to race to the center on that issue.
They tried to emphasize the fact that they both own guns in an attempt to appeal to moderate voters who own guns.
Ultimately, however, people seemed to trust Trump more on the gun issue, and now the polls are shifting away from the left on guns.
