The anti-gun lobby just lost a very critical battle.

A new law that has expanded the freedom to own guns has been signed.

And this law will now go into effect for millions of people.

The state of Iowa has just over 3 million residents, and the laws in their state are about to change in a way that will be very exciting for Second Amendment advocates.

The governor of Iowa, Kim Reynolds, just signed a law that will allow residents of her state who are between the ages of 18 and 21 to own a handgun.

Previously, they could not do that, and the anti-gun lobby certainly was hoping that the old law would stay in place and that this would not pass.

But gun owners in the state have been pushing for their freedoms to be expanded, and the legislature and the governor agreed with them.

Now, everyone who is an adult in Iowa will have the full set of the freedoms guaranteed to them under the Constitution.

No one will be excluded anymore, and gun owners in other states will surely be hoping that their state follows suit.

According to The Truth About Guns, “Governor Kim Reynolds has signed a bill into law allowing Iowans 18 and older to own and carry a handgun, lowering the minimum age from 21.

“While Iowans 18 years or older can already purchase long guns, this bill follows recent court decisions across the country that have ruled against federal law, which requires Americans to be 21 to buy handguns.”

It’s entirely possible that even if Reynolds hadn’t signed this law, the courts would have forced it on the state regardless, as the law was probably unconstitutional.

But Reynolds didn’t want to even go down that rabbit hole, and she happily signed the bill into law without having to be subject to a major court fight.

The article continues, “Iowa voters should know that all Republican representatives voted for the bill, aside from Senators Charlie McClintock and Ken Rozenboom, in case you have a conservative challenger coming up in their districts. Democrats largely opposed the bill, save for two holdouts, Senators Tony Bisignano and Bill Dotzler.”

“Even though Iowans aged 18 through 20 will be able to own and carry handguns under the law, they will not be able to receive a permit to acquire handguns or to buy a gun from a federal firearms licensee (FFL). However, legislation signed into law by Reynolds in 2021 allowed Iowans 21 years old and older to acquire or carry a handgun openly or concealed without a permit.”

Iowa is now one of the more friendly states in the nation to gun owners, and other states could certainly learn a lesson from how easily this bill was passed by the legislature and the governor.

It would help if other states followed their lead, instead of having to be heavily pressured by gun advocacy groups to respect the Second Amendment and to restore the rights of gun owners.
