Gun removal continues to be a goal of many anti-gun politicians.
Some have even publicly come out for things like mandatory gun buybacks.
And one new program should serve as a major warning to American gun owners.
Many in the gun control lobby wonder why America simply can’t have the same gun policies as other countries around the world.
After all, most Western countries have very strict gun laws, and America is unique in the fact that there is a Second Amendment which protects people who want to own guns.
In the eyes of gun owners, this is a good thing, of course, but people who dislike guns and would prefer to see them banned are not so happy about it.
That’s why things like gun buyback programs that take place in other countries can sometimes serve as an inspiration to anti-gun activists in the United States.
And when one of these programs pops up, it should serve as a warning to American gun owners.
The latest country to do so is Australia, which already has a sordid history with gun laws, and now is digging their hole even deeper.
According to The Truth About Guns, “The Cook Government has announced that between now and January 17, 2025, Western Australian gun dealers will be allowed to surrender their firearms in return for cash. Once the guns are surrendered to Western Australian police, dealers will receive up to $1,000 per gun, depending on the kind and condition of each firearm.”
There’s more to this news, though, as the program is not as voluntary is it may seem on the surface.
A new gun control law has passed in Western Australia that could actually force gun owners to participate in this buyback.
The article continues, “The move comes as Western Australia’s new, restrictive gun-control law, which places a limit on the number of guns an individual can own and significantly hardens the rules around ownership, is set to take effect on March 15. Government officials are acting like they’re doing dealers a favor by helping them dispose of firearms when actually they’re further tightening the noose on Australia’s besieged gun owners.
“Police Minister Paul Papalia bragged that the new gun laws are ‘the strictest in the nation.’”
The fact that there is a limit on the number of guns people can own in Western Australia may create a situation where various gun owners have to participate in the buyback to comply with the law.
In other words, this buyback is not a voluntary thing people can participate in if they need a little extra cash, but in fact could be a way to compel people to hand over their guns.
Thankfully, nothing like this has yet happened in the United States, but if people aren’t careful and vigilant, things could change on a dime if the wrong people get elected to office.
American gun owners should watch what is happening in Western Australia with caution and make sure it does not happen here.
