The U.N. wrapped up its Third Review Conference on the Programme of Action earlier this year, during which officials discussed tactics to put a dent in the illegal international arms trade.
This conference was filled with tired talking points about how guns cause violence, and the government must step in to stop it. In typical globalist fashion, the U.N. sees gun violence as a worldwide problem that requires a heavy-handed, global solution.
Globalist gun grabbers have been aiming for comprehensive gun control over the past few years.
In the parting days of his administration, former President Barack Obama submitted the U.N. Arms Trade Treaty to the Senate.
Luckily for gun owners, the Senate has yet to ratify this treaty.
The Trump Administration’s silence on this matter, however, is disquieting.
The stakes are now much higher with U.N. officials contemplating the use of RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) chips to “track and document which individual has used a specific weapon, when and for how long” (language from the conference). RFID tracking is a part of a proposal Mexico pitched to track so-called “end-users” (the person who ultimately possesses the gun after the close of a purchase) of firearms. It’s a fancy way of saying they want to implement gun control in the United States.
When it comes to national sovereignty, the U.N. couldn’t care less about a nation’s right to determine policies that fit the needs of its citizens.
Grassroots gun activists in the United States, however, have done a great job raising awareness on the U.N. Arms Trade Treaty. If signed, this treaty would infringe upon the rights of millions of law-abiding American gun owners.
All of these consequences are to be expected from the U.N.—an institution that is no friend to freedom. The U.N. is a farce when it comes to human rights. Its Human Rights Council, for instance, contains in its ranks a host of perennial human rights abusers, including Cuba, Saudi Arabia, and Venezuela.
Why should we be paying any heed to a freedom-hating organization like the U.N.? The best course of action would be for the United States to withdraw from the U.N. altogether.
But in today’s political climate, such a move is little more than a pipe dream.
A practical first step, though, would be for President Trump to take a stand against this anti-gun nonsense and declare an immediate withdrawal from the Arms Trade Treaty.
For the United States to remain exceptional, it must continue to buck the globalist status quo of gun control.
