Floridians are grateful for their Second Amendment freedoms after this incident.
Ron DeSantis has tried to make the state friendly to gun owners.
And that came in handy after something scary just happened in DeSantis’s home state.
Florida has become a much more conservative state in recent years, largely due to the influence of Ron DeSantis who has changed the state in a seismic way.
But the state is going through growing pains, as it used to be more politically moderate and now is adjusting to its new political outlook.
This means that on the issue of guns, for example, the laws in the state have not caught up to the political reality as they have in some other conservative states.
Ron DeSantis is trying to change that, and he has had some success.
And Floridians are grateful for that after a scary home invasion led to a self-defense shooting by the person who was being victimized.
Now, if this becomes a major media story, it could have an impact on a big gun debate that is taking place in the Florida legislature right now.
According to The Truth About Guns, “We all know that while, in theory, a restraining order carries the weight of the law behind it, in practice, it’s just a piece of paper that won’t stop an angry attacker who has already set out to break a more serious law like assault or murder. That’s why it’s a good idea to also have on hand something more functional to protect yourself from an angry ex or another antagonist—something that has been proven to stop threats no matter how dangerous they might be.
“Such was the case earlier this week in Lake City, Florida, when a man broke into the home where his ex-wife and children live. According to a report at ammoland.com, 31-year-old Langston Sykes, a local mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter nicknamed ‘Blaze,’ forcibly entered the home at around 11 p.m.”
Fortunately, there was a gun in the home, and he was able to be stopped.
The article continues, “According to the Lake City Police Department, Sykes then rushed toward an adult occupant in the home, forcing him or her (the police report doesn’t make it clear) to fire multiple shots in self-defense.”
This comes at a fascinating time in Florida, as there is a major debate going on in the legislature over the issue of open carry.
Of course, this is not an open carry incident, as the person who fired the shots was inside their own home.
But nonetheless, it highlights the critical importance of self-defense, which can be just as necessary outside of the home as it is inside of one’s own home.
DeSantis is trying to push open carry, but he is getting resistance from some people in the legislature.
Perhaps if this story is highlighted by gun owners throughout the state, it will be the catalyst for legislators in Florida to realize just how important the Second Amendment truly is.
