KelTec has another innovative firearm in their lineup for Gunpowder readers: The SUB2000 CQB.

Integrally suppressed carbines are nothing new, however, the SUB2000 CQB is the first one that folds in half! KelTec took their SUB2000 Carbine and added a baffled barrel to the 9mm model. The SUB2000 CQB offers compact storage and superior pistol caliber firepower.

(By the way, CQB usually stands for Close Quarters Battle. In this case, it means “Carbine Quiet Barrel.”0

Located in the Cocoa Beach, Florida Freedom Zone, KelTec is a leader in firearms innovation. The original SUB2000 had an issue with optics getting in the way when folding the rifle. KelTec engineers attacked the problem, and the CQB version features a rotating barrel shroud, eliminating the problem. Simply pull up on the locking tab and rotate the hand guard 90 degrees, then fold the gun just like a standard SUB2000.

If you’re looking for space to attach sights, optics, lasers, lights, or other accoutrement, KelTec has you covered. Its 16”barrel has a full length picatinny rail on top, and the bottom is full length except for its contoured forend.

The barrel and suppressor are one unit, made in-house. The baffles are shrouded by a rotating hand guard and locked in by a removable end cap. This design allows for easy and thorough cleaning and reassembly.

The CQB has 4.25 inches of rifling in a 16-inch baffled barrel. Since this is not a short-barrel rifle, the BATFE only gets one $200 tax stamp, and you get the carbine and cleanable suppressor right out of the box all at a low MSRP of $995!

KelTec’s tag line for this weapon is “Meet the Keeper of Peace and Quiet.” With its baffled 16” barrel, the SUB2000 CQB is quiet. Add in some subsonic ammo, and it’s “Hollywood Quiet.” This would make an ideal truck gun, home defense firearm, plinker, or just a general purpose pistol caliber carbine that’s quiet, easy to shoot, and easy to stow. That’s all for now folks! Please keep sending in your questions, tips, and article ideas. And as always – “Let’s be careful out there.”
