GPM has been following the journey of Lauren Boebert since she was a gun-toting, restaurant-owning mother of four in Colorado (see video at the end of this story).

Now, of course, Boebert is shaking things up in the U.S. Congress as the representative for Colorado’s Third Congressional District. She’s known to be very pro-gun and asked (as if she should have to ask?!) Capitol Police about carrying her Glock to work.

In early January, Boebert posted a video to Twitter explaining her stance on guns and declared “I WILL carry my Glock to Congress.”

Now, 12NewsNow reports, Acting DC Police Chief Robert Contee has revealed:

“A concealed carry permit was issued in that case … As we do with all permits, if citizens are allowed to carry then we grant them a permit. In this case, she was allowed to carry, and she was granted a permit. We did reach out to [her] office.”

Washington, D.C., is, of course, notoriously terrible when it comes to gun laws. “…[O]pen carry is illegal in D.C. for all citizens and conceal carry licenses from other states are not recognized,” reports 12News. “District of Columbia Concealed Carry Pistol Licenses are only issued after a firearms training course, approved by DC Police, has been completed.”

Despite its strict gun laws, The Washington Post recently reported homicides in the city have hit a 16-year high, and “shootings have also spiked.”
