This was a sneaky move by Joe Biden.
He only has a few weeks left as president.
But he is using that time to force Donald Trump into a serious gun control battle.
Gun control has been one of Joe Biden’s top priorities since he took office as president, and he has been relentless in pushing it.
While Biden has been forced to move to the left on a number of issues due to political considerations, gun control seems to be something that he actually feels strongly about.
For that reason, he wants to box in Donald Trump so that Trump cannot restore Second Amendment freedoms when he takes office in January.
One way of doing that is to force through as much gun control as possible now, and put Trump in the position of having to either actively repeal it, or just leave it alone.
Since Trump will have a lot to worry about as president, and guns don’t seem to be his top issue, he may just leave it alone.
This would be a win for Joe Biden and a vindication of what appears to be his strategy.
According to The Truth About Guns, “The Department of Justice under the current Biden administration, has introduced a new pair of gun control ‘rules’ with the goal being to bring regulations into compliance with the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (BSCA).”
“The second proposed rule, AG Order No. 6100-2024, would require enhanced background checks on adults under 21 who wish to purchase a firearm, allowing the FBI to contact local and state organizations to inquire about juvenile criminal and mental health records. Note these agencies, however, are not required to respond to such communications, some of which are explicitly prohibited due to state law.”
Trump certainly would have the ability as president to repeal these “rules” and make this whole thing a moot point.
But it would require him to spend political capital on this fight, and he may decide that it simply isn’t a top priority for him, in which case these gun control rules would stand.
The article continues, “There is absolutely zero connection between these rules and preventing a Uvalde-style attack in the future. The assumption that 6100-2024 could have prevented the shooting due to the age of the gunman being 18 is extremely short-sighted. Criminals have a long history of obtaining firearms, explosives, vehicles and other instruments used to maim and kill by illegal means. They are criminals, after all. This measure is the equivalent of installing a 1-inch speedbump to prevent a 4×4 from driving down your street.”
Gun owners cannot assume that Trump is automatically going to do the right thing to protect their freedoms by repealing these new rules.
They are going to have to put political pressure on him to do so, and then double down if he does not respond to the pressure.
Donald Trump has not always been a hero on the gun issue, but he is going to have to take action now.
