Things are getting much worse for millions of gun owners.
Gretchen Whitmer is not messing around with her gun control plans.
She just delivered terrible news to gun owners about criminalizing their firearms.
With a power vacuum emerging in the Democratic Party, and no one there to fill it except Nancy Pelosi who is far too old to run for president, younger Democrats are jockeying for position.
Gretchen Whitmer is working hard to pass progressive legislation, something she could use in the future to bolster her Democrat credentials to run for president.
Her current focus is on gun control, something she is a huge supporter of and has made clear that she is willing to spend serious political capital on.
Even in a state like Michigan that is moderate and went for Donald Trump in November, Whitmer has shown a willingness to take extreme progressive stands.
She just signed a gun control bill into law that’ll make carrying guns out in public more risky for Michiganders.
And this law could lead to gun owners facing big-time legal trouble if they do not follow her new rules to the T.
According to The Truth About Guns, “The anti-gun train keeps rolling down the tracks in Michigan with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signing a gun-ban measure into law on Tuesday, only a day before Great Lakes State lawmakers debated several anti-gun measures in a House Committee.
“The new law signed by Whitmer makes it illegal to possess a firearm at a voting location anywhere in the state—at least for lawful Michiganders.”
Many people who seek to exercise their freedoms guaranteed by the Second Amendment carry guns in public routinely.
The fact that someone could carry a firearm into a polling place and have to face legal consequences for it is bad news for gun owners in Michigan.
The article continues, “Whitmer said the law will protect Michigan voters from gun violence when they head to the polls. Of course, it will do no such thing, as mass shooters are notorious for picking places to wreak havoc where gun-haters like Whitmer have disarmed the law-abiding public.”
“The signing came one day before the scheduled debate over four anti-gun measures in the Michigan House Committee on Military, Veterans and Homeland Security. House Bills 6144, 6145 and 6146 require law enforcement agencies to destroy any firearm that has been confiscated or returned during a ‘gun buy-back.’ Such a piece of feel-good legislation simply destroys working firearms that could be resold by police agencies, which are typically on a very tight budget.”
The fact that Whitmer and her fellow Democrats are focused on guns in polling places is bizarre, since there is not exactly an epidemic of gun violence in polling places.
Unfortunately, though, it sounds like the gun control push is not going to stop there, with a series of other bills on the docket.
Gun owners in Michigan need to stand up and push back against Whitmer immediately if they are going to retain their constitutional freedoms.
