An active shooter incident is over in Polk County and Florida’s favorite sheriff says, “We shot him a lot, and that was the end of the gunfight”.

On Friday, June 3rd, 2022, at 6:07pm, the wife of Polk County resident Michael Loman called 911 after her husband threatened to kill both her, himself and deputies.  Ms. Loman told the Emergency Operator he also threatened “Suicide by Cop” and stated her husband had threatened to kill her if deputies came to the residence.  Deputies responded and found 56-year-old Loman shooting a rifle both inside and outside of his home.  Loman’s wife was found hiding behind a truck and deputies moved her to safety.  Loman, who has previous arrests for drug-related offenses and domestic violence (shocker), went back inside the home stating he needed to reload his gun so he could kill his wife and the deputies.  When Loman came back out of the house, deputies shot him.  Neighbors told the sheriff’s office that Loman had been outside shooting prior to deputies arriving.

Sheriff Judd stated that deputies did not try to negotiate with the man as it was “too late.”

“When you’ve already engaged as an active shooter and shot at people and shot in the house and threatened to kill the deputies, and you brandish a firearm in the direction of deputies, they’re gonna shoot you – shoot you a lot. That’s what they’re trained to do.  That’s what they’re instructed to do.  They’re not gonna sit there and hold a conversation with a guy with a firearm,”  Sheriff Judd stated, adding that four Polk County deputies engaged Loman with their AR-15 rifles.

When asked if alcohol was involved Judd stated “It’s important to note that we were told that he had been drinking alcoholic beverages this evening, but we need to confirm that with our investigation.”  The shooting is being investigated by the Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs section, as well as the Polk County State Attorney.

That’s all for now folks!   Please keep sending in your questions, tips, and article ideas.  And as always – “Let’s Be Careful Out There”
