The Insurrection is Cabot’s first double-stack M1911-type pistol.
“We’ve been working on this for more than two years,” said Nick Morrow, Cabot Guns director of sales and marketing. “A lot of people think, out there on the market, that a double-stack 1911 is no big deal. Obviously, Para had their high-cap style back in the ’80s and ’90s, and then in the ’90s, STI introduced the 2011 style. There are a lot of other options coming to market right now, and it isn’t just as simple as slapping a 1911 upper on a double-stack lower and going off to the races. There’s a lot of different things you have to look at. And we came up with what we believe to be the best double-stack 1911 platform on the market.”
THE FRAME
The Cabot frame starts as a billet of domestic 416 stainless steel. Controls are standard 1911 with a beavertail grip safety, extended ambidextrous thumb safety, a skeletonized delta-style hammer, a solid trigger that’s factory set at 3.5 pounds, and a Picatinny rail on the dust cover for lights and lasers. It’s finished in black diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating or matte stainless steel.
THE SLIDE & BARREL
Features include a stainless steel slide with window cuts. The Cabot proprietary advantage internal extractor provides reliable extraction. It’s fitted with a Cabot ledge rear sight and Cabot red fiber optic front sight, with an optics mounting point available as an option. Other sight options include a black serrated, white dot, tritium, and gold bead front.
The barrel is a 5-inch match grade, crowned, stainless steel with fluted hood cuts, and there is a ported barrel option to reduce recoil and a threaded option.

THE VERDICT
Cabot guarantees the double-stack Insurrection can produce a 1.5″ group at 25 yards.
It’s shipped with two 17-round magazines, with 20-round magazines available in free states. One 10-round magazine is shipped in restricted states, and the Insurrection is unavailable in the People’s Republic of California or Massachusetts.
