The ATF has never attacked guns like they have during the Biden administration.
They are apparently determined to rid America of firearms.
And now they are launching a major new program to crack down on guns.
The ATF and the Biden administration are desperately trying to keep up with the new technology that keeps emerging in the gun industry.
They are in a race to implement gun control in an age when people can simply create their own guns instead of buying them at a gun show or in a store.
This is proving to be very difficult for the ATF and other federal agencies, so they are cracking down even harder in an attempt to scare people into stopping.
They are getting nervous that they simply are going to have no way to track all the new guns that are being created.
That’s why they have launched yet another new program designed at cracking down on certain types of 3D-printed guns.
And it is possible, perhaps even likely, that this program is going to be expanded in the near future to go after more types of guns.
According to Vice, “ATF Director Steven Dettelbach and Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco recently announced new initiatives aimed at curbing the proliferation of MCDs [Machine Gun Conversion Devices], also known as ‘switches’ or ‘auto sears.’ The ATF said MCDs are the most frequently recovered type of illegal firearm.”
“The new initiative will create a new Department of Justice committee that will oversee the development of new strategies to take on the devices, train law enforcement officials, and prioritize legal cases involving MCDs. The ATF is also trying to work closely with the manufacturers of 3D printers to find ways to stem the tide. Thousands of these devices are already in circulation.”
While most gun owners obviously do not own anything like this, it is highly unlikely that this crackdown is going to stop with MCDs.
The ATF has made clear that their issue is with all guns, not just with fully-automatic ones.
The article continues, “According to USA Today, the devices have already been used in shooting cases around the country, like in a 2022 mass shooting in Sacramento that left six dead and 12 wounded, as well as the 2023 death of a police chief in Pennsylvania, where the shooter used a pistol with an extended bag and any legal conversion kit.”
These are horrific events, but as we’ve seen elsewhere, they could have taken place with regular guns as well.
That’s why the focus on gun control when it comes to mass shooting has been a distraction from the real solution to the issue, which is school security – something that is extremely lacking in many schools.
Steps should be taken to stop mass violence, but they should be steps that actually work. Gun control has been shown repeatedly not to work.
The ATF can continue to crack down on this gun or that gun, or they could focus on real solutions to the problem.
