In their usual fashion, the federal government is going to regulate a product that was once legal but will now be a regulated firearm. In an ATF budget justification memo, not intended to be seen by the peasants, to the Office of Management & Budget, the ATF requested additional funding for a Pistol Brace Amnesty/Registration scheduled for this December!

The ATF, which is not a law-making body, wants owners of pistol braces to register their brace as a short-barreled rifle by completing an ATF form 1, and have a photo taken of the weapon with brace attached. The ATF form 1 usually requires a $200 dollar tax stamp, but the ATF has decided to be magnanimous in their tyranny and waive the fee. There would by an “Amnesty Period” for owners to register their braces, after which you would be a felon for not registering.

Last year the ATF posted their newly proposed pistol brace rules on the federal register for public comment. The majority of comments were against the rule change, but as usual the people’s opinion was ignored. Governments around the world want your guns and they are slowly and steadily getting them. Products that are legal are changed to regulated so that they must be registered. Then sooner or later, they are confiscated! This is reminiscent of New York City years ago, when it was “legal” to own an AR-15 within the city limits. Then a registration was required in the city for AR owners. Then the city council decided the rifles must go. AR owners had to get them out of the city or turn them in for destruction without compensation.

Another issue I have is the term “Amnesty.”  Apparently, no one at the ATF owns a dictionary. Amnesty is a term used when describing criminals. Brace owners purchase their braces legally, they are not criminals.

Perhaps the rule change will be shot down (pun intended) before implementation, but make no mistake folks, the government wants your guns.

That’s all for now folks! Please keep sending in your questions, tips, and article ideas. And as always – “Let’s Be Careful Out There”
