The attempt by the federal government to strip veterans of their rights hit a major obstacle.

A decision was handed down that protected the Second Amendment.

And the feds were shocked to find out that they had to stop taking guns away.

One of the most absurd policies on the books is the Department of Veterans Affairs’ policy of snitching on veterans who need help managing their financial affairs.

They send all of these records to the FBI, who then report these veterans in background checks to prevent them from buying guns.

Many people have raised the alarm about this policy, but the VA has flatly refused to stop and continued turning in America’s veterans to the FBI even though they did nothing wrong.

However, a new policy has taken effect that will prevent these federal agents from engaging in this horrible and inhumane practice.

For at least the next six months, the VA will have to stop turning over veteran gun owners to the FBI.

And at least for the time being, veterans who own guns can breathe a sigh of relief and know they won’t be targeted by the feds.

According to Stars and Stripes, “A new ban that has stopped the Department of Veterans Affairs from taking away the gun rights of veterans who are found to be incapable of managing their own financial affairs will expire in six months, VA officials said.

“The VA in March ended its weekly practice of submitting the names of veterans appointed fiduciaries to handle their VA disability benefits to the FBI’s national background check database.

“The database contains information on people prohibited from buying or receiving firearms. Inclusion in the database legally disqualifies veterans from owning, possessing or buying firearms from licensed dealers.”

The ability to handle one’s own financial affairs is completely different than the ability to handle a firearm.

While it is good to check one’s bank account periodically to see if it is “loaded,” so to speak, there is little correlation between being good at math and understanding the rules of firearm safety.

Veterans who may struggle to manage their finances can still be safe and responsible gun owners if the government will allow them to.

The article continues, “The VA’s Veterans Benefits Administration, which disperses monthly benefit payments to veterans, has been required by federal law upon the VA’s appointment of a fiduciary to manage a veteran’s benefits to submit the veteran’s name to the FBI’s National Instant Background Check System, or NICS, as ineligible to own or possess firearms, according to the agency.”

This rule was a clear and obvious injustice to millions of people who have bravely fought to defend our country in deadly wars overseas.

People who have fought in the military should be allowed to own guns. The VA has no right to turn them in to the FBI or snitch on them.

Thankfully, at least for the time being, that isn’t going to happen anymore. Hopefully this policy will be ended for good.
