On June 25, 2023, President Joe Biden called for lawsuits to be launched against AR-15 manufacturers. In addition, he wants similar lawsuits to be filed against manufacturers of other firearms that gun controllers designate as “assault weapons.”

Biden went on Twitter to demand that legal action be taken against these firearm manufacturers. He tweeted:

“Gun manufacturers have spent two decades aggressively marketing assault weapons that make them some of the biggest profits. It’s time we ended gun manufacturers’ immunity from liability – we’ve got to hold them accountable.”

Throughout his 2020 campaign, Biden was a staunch proponent of using lawsuits to punish gunmakers. He believes that gun vendors enjoy unfair immunity from these kinds of lawsuits. Effectively, Biden wants to scrap the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA). The PLCAA is a law that was passed in 2005 supposedly to protect companies from frivolous lawsuits dealing with crimes that involved guns that were legally manufactured and legally sold.

The legal avenue is one way that Gun Control Inc. is exploiting to destroy the Second Amendment. There’s no clear anti-gun majority at the federal level. Democrats control the White House and the Senate, but do not control the House. At the state level, states have become increasingly polarized on gun issues, with blue states becoming anti-gun bastions and red states increasingly becoming de facto sanctuaries for gun rights.

With that in mind, gun controllers have pivoted to lawfare to advance their unholy agenda. They claimed a solid victory after victims of the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting were able to successfully extract a $73 million settlement from gun manufacturer Remington. For gun control organizations, this case will likely serve as a launchpad for future lawsuits with the aim of bankrupting gun manufacturers.

By bankrupting gun makers, gun control proponents effectively deny prospective gun owners of stores to obtain firearms from. If this anti-gun project becomes a successful endeavor, the total supply of legal firearms will decrease, thereby de facto disarming lawful individuals.

GPM reached out to Dudley Brown, the president of the National Association for Gun Rights, for his opinion on Biden’s calls for lawsuits against firearm manufacturers.

Brown declared, “Whether it’s law-abiding gun owners, or in this case American businesses, Biden is desperate to place the blame for surging violent crime on anyone except the criminals or the failed gun control laws that render innocent Americans defenseless.”

“As election season draws near, we can expect Biden to ramp up this rhetoric in order to appease his billionaire backers and the Gun Control Lobby,” Brown concluded.

Pro-Second Amendment organizations must be prepared for drawn-out legal fights. When the court system is being used as a blunt instrument to destroy the firearms industry, there must be a fierce response in the courts as well as in the legislative halls. The fight to restore the Second Amendment is multi-faceted in nature and will require vigilance in all realms of our daily lives.

This harsh reality cannot be ignored if we want to truly take back our freedoms.
