Greensboro, North Carolina resident Mark Robinson’s passionate plea to his local city council to protect the rights of law-abiding citizens to defend themselves with firearms has made him something of a celebrity.

Robinson made his speech in April during a public comment period of a Greensboro City Council meeting. Robinson and several others responded to the proposed cancellation of a gun and knife show made by the mayor following the Parkland, Florida school shooting, the Raleigh News & Observer reported.

“When are you all going to start standing up for the majority?” Robinson asked the council. “Here’s who the majority is: I’m the majority. I’m a law-abiding citizen who has never shot anybody. Never committed a serious crime. Never committed a felony. I’ve never done anything like that, but it seems like every time we have one of these shootings…You want to turn around and restrict my right, my constitutional right that’s spelled-out in black and white. You want to restrict my right to buy a firearms and protect myself.”

Robinson and a portion of his speech have since been featured in an ad produced by the NRA.
