The House Judiciary Committee held a hearing today on “Protecting America from Assault Weapons.”

GPM was in attendance at the hearing. Chairman Jerry Nadler led the meeting, speaking in favor of a so-called “assault weapons” ban. Nadler repeatedly made erroneous statements about firearms, notably that common rifles – the most popular types in the U.S. – are “weapons of war.” Rep. Doug Collins (R-GA) spoke spoke to clarify definitions of certain terms used in the gun control debate, and said we need to “clear misconceptions” surrounding firearms.

Supporters and opponents to the proposed assault weapons ban testified.
