The government is launching a serious attempt to remove all guns.

They want gun owners to turn everything in immediately.

And one community has launched a full-scale campaign to make this happen.

Guns are only dangerous in the hands of the wrong people. Responsible gun owners are not the cause of violence in society.

For people who believe in the Second Amendment, that is just common sense. But for busybody public officials who love passing laws to “make the world a better place,” guns are a threat.

That’s why so-called “gun buyback” programs have become so popular for politicians and local police departments to implement.

They signal to anxious constituents who are uncomfortable with guns that they are “doing something” to keep them safe, and they reduce the number of guns in the community.

Unfortunately, the only people that these buybacks take guns away from are the responsible gun owners who are actually willing to turn their guns in for money.

That’s bad news for one community in Maryland, where the number of law-abiding gun owners has gone down thanks to a buyback, giving criminals free rein.

According to KOMO News, “Piles among piles of unwanted firearms were zip-tied and loaded into Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) vans Saturday during a gun buyback event in Germantown, Maryland.

“The United Church of Christ of Seneca Valley organized the event as part of the Washington D.C.-area Interfaith Gun Violence Prevention Network in conjunction with the MCSO and the State’s Attorney’s office.

“County officials told WJLA that around 150 firearms were turned in, including ghost guns and some explosives.

“Community members were able to surrender firearms in exchange for grocery store gift cards: functioning handguns, rifles, and shotguns were worth $100 and functioning military assault-style weapons and privately manufactured firearms (‘ghost guns’) were worth $200.”

The people involved in this are almost certainly patting themselves on the back, thinking they did a good deed, when in fact they just increased the share of the guns in their community that are owned by criminals.

Now, when crimes are committed in this part of Maryland, the perpetrators can rest easy knowing that their victims will have no way of fighting back.

The article continues, “Saturday’s buyback event came less than 24 hours after neighbors in Prince George’s County felt the shock of gunshots at a ‘senior skip day,’ which landed five teenagers in the line of fire.”

The fact that people heard about a shooting in their community, and reacted by turning in their own guns, is mind-boggling.

One has to wonder – are these people worried that the guns in their closet are going to get up on their own and start shooting at people?

If crime is going up in someone’s community, that is all the more reason why they should want a method to defend themselves and their family.

Gun buybacks are a laughable concept that has almost certainly saved no lives, ever, and are nothing more than a way for politicians to feel good about themselves.
