“Mongol Moon” is a WWIII thriller that involves Iran, China, Russia, and North Korea working in concert to invade and destroy America using nuclear weapons, EMP attacks, and an occupying army of infiltrating troops through America’s open border with Mexico. The objective is to seize America’s tangible assets due to years of decline in their lands. After years of the D.C. politicians ignoring or working in concert with the axis of evil, the swamp’s treason has come to America to roost.

The characters include Joey, the U.S. Navy Commander and astronaut who must find her way down to Earth from the crippled International Space Station and home to Virginia; U.S. Marine An Nguyen and their tank named Alice, that leave their post in Kentucky looking for a fight on their way home; Gale Washington, a contractor senior intelligence watch officer working with military and alphabet boi staff and analysts, and a uni-fang dog named Chewie, who respond to the attacks with a vengeance to save their families, neighborhoods, and homeland. There’s also Javad, the Iranian chief spymaster looking to settle a score from his teen years.

Although it features several separate threads and a large ensemble of well-crafted characters, Sibley keeps all the plates spinning. The plot is slow and steady, and the initial attack on strategic targets throughout the world is well thought out. This knowledge is due to his experience as a war gamer, as they must think of ways to destroy targets before coming to a solution to protect them. Sibley did a great job with research, and the military descriptions are accurate as he sought out the military folks who perform these functions in real life. Sibley weaves their storylines together and adds a dose of gallows humor as people in these situations tend to engage in them. Several threads are pulled together for the finale, but there is room left to leave the story open for a sequel, which has just been released.

“Mongol Moon” is filled with plausible scenarios, some of which America is experiencing now, with its open border. As with any war or techno-thriller fiction, some will compare his writing to Tom Clancy or others, but Sibley’s writing style is his own. This novel was initially self-published but was recently re-released by WarGate Books, who reviewed it with the author and fixed some minor errors. This book was a massive undertaking for a first novel, and Sibley knocks it out of the park.

Mark Sibley is a corporate crisis manager and war gamer, and his experience and imagination are displayed by the realistic threats put forward in the novel. Although written before the current regime fully opened the U.S.-Mexican border, the plot involving Chinese infiltrators entering the country and pre-positioning troops and supplies in America is spot-on and couldn’t be more accurate. Sibley has created a unique storyline with great characters. This novel is a page-turner and a definite buy, so pick up a copy and stock up on tacos while you’re at it.
